Privacy Policy

NextDrop forecasts rain for a place you choose. This policy describes exactly what the app sends to our servers, why, and how long we keep it. We do not sell your data, we do not use advertising or analytics SDKs, and we do not build a profile of you.

Location

When you allow location access, the app reads your coordinates and sends them to our servers to fetch a forecast and radar tiles for that point. Coordinates are also sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to turn them into a place name, and to Open-Meteo to compare forecast models.

• Location is used only while the app is open. NextDrop does not track you in the background.
• Forecast lookups are cached against a rounded coordinate (roughly a 1 km grid), not against you.
• Places you save are stored on your device, not on our servers.
• If you enable rain alerts, the location you are watching is stored on our server so the alert scheduler knows where to check.

Rain alerts

If you turn on alerts, we store an Expo push token for your device together with the coordinates you are watching, your alert preferences (lead time, minimum intensity, quiet hours) and your time zone. This is the minimum needed to send an alert before rain reaches you. Turning alerts off stops the notifications; deleting the app ends delivery entirely.

Subscriptions

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. When you subscribe, the app sends us Apple's signed transaction, from which we store the transaction identifier, product, expiry date and whether it is a trial, so the app knows you are entitled and the alert scheduler knows it may notify you. We also store a random identifier generated on your device so entitlement works before notifications are enabled.

What we never collect

• Your name, email address or Apple ID
• Contacts, photos, calendar or health data
• Advertising identifiers — the app contains no ad or analytics SDKs

Third parties

• Rainbow AI — minute-by-minute precipitation forecasts and radar tiles. Tiles are proxied through our servers, so your device never contacts them directly.
• Open-Meteo — daily rainfall from the GFS, ECMWF and ICON models for the Models screen.
• OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — place search and reverse geocoding, requested by our servers rather than your device.
• CARTO — base map tiles on the radar screen.
• Expo — delivers push notifications to Apple on our behalf.
• Apple — processes all payments and subscription state.

Retention and deletion

Device and alert records are kept while the app is installed and alerts are enabled. To have your device record and subscription record deleted, email us from the address below and we will remove them.

Children

NextDrop is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date above will change and the updated version will appear at this address.
